To accurately play tubercolosis-stricken 18th century prostitute Fantine in Les Miserables, Anne Hathaway went on an extreme diet and fitness regimen earlier this spring to shrink down her already-slight 5-foot-9.
The results were clear when the Oscar nominee, 29, hit the beach in Miami on Friday.
Wearing a tiny black bikini and sporting the severe short cropped 'do Hathaway got for the role, the star looked surprisingly skinny as she frolicked in the water. Engaged to Adam Shulman (with a wedding set for this fall), the star is in the Florida city with her mom, Kate, to celebrate the 80th birthday of Italian designer Valentino.

The Daily Mirror had reported that Hathaway had to drop 16 pounds in three weeks for the role of Fantine (who chops off her hair in order to sell it to support daughter Cosette), eating only 500 calories a day.
Although her rep said such claims were "exaggerated," a source close to the star told Us, "Anne was exercising two hours a day, five days a week!"
